- Moca is the capital of Espaillat province in the Dominican Republic. Moca is located 11 miles/18 kilometers away from the country’s second biggest city, Santiago De Los Caballeros. The writer Aída Cartagena Portalatín was also born in Moca, in 1918. Mocanos coined name for people born in Moca. One of them is Franklin de Js. Torres a well known citizen who discovered the real origin of the world Moca and who is the youngest language teacher throughout the Dominican Republic. Torres has become one of the most credible historian of the new century. Through his research, he found a Taino settlement in Villa Trina led by a chittainship called Moca, whence originated the name of the capital of Espaillat privince, now known as Moca or MocaCity.
